VINDAHL - "new" Danish artist

/ Nu-Disco, Soul, Denmark          (posted in Danish, 2011 November 26th)

I received a tip from one of my musical friends - Susanne H. - and obviously had to check it out ...

This is Ronnie Vindahl who played in both Boom Clap Bachelors and Non+ ... he has released his first solo album with guest singers who does an excellent job: Coco from Quadron and Jenny Wilson.

Below the video Not In Space Without You

Ronnie's solo album (Serendipity) is quite interesting - I was just checking it out on Spotify right now (super invention - you get a good tip and right away you can enjoy the music :)

This music is easy and nostalgic, and yet again new in a way. It is minimalistic at times and a little naive.

Below the video The Question (feat. Jenny Wilson)

This song (above), I have heard more than a few times now... is super fine, but it is as though it has a "twin-song" I've heard before, but WHERE / WHAT? Well, I'll recall someday.
The video looks like it was recorded in Sweden, and Vindahl's father has a home in Sweden, so perhaps that's why ...?

The reviewers are divided, some love it (Gaffa), and some gives bad reviews (Soundvenue) - I think it's pretty good music.

Thanks to Susanne - you people are welcome to send me more tips on music.

EDITED:
Where is Vindahl now? Why no new albums? It has been almost 4 years since aforementioned album was released. After checking Vindahls facebook page you will find many links on Mø, the successful Danish electronica artist. Search on the two artists combined provides a link to an interesting interview in a quite exciting online urban fashion / music / skater culture magazine, called Bitchslap Magazine ... the article is linked below. Vindahl is now the producer behind Mø (and also collaborate with other artists), he also appeared as her guitarist, but would rather be a producer than a musician. That's why Vindahl haven't released new albums. Do read the interesting article, published in October 2013. Finally, the song: Head over Heels (feat. Coco)

JAMIE WOON - What?

   / Electro-RnB, UK          (posted in Danish, 2011 November 21st)

EDIT:
Now I've had the album Mirrorwriting for some days and I must say it is incredibly beautiful, near perfection and top class. When I play the album I forget what I was doing just to listen some more. The article below should be more about the album and less about the remix. It is well composed and well produced. Reminds me of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Calvin Harris and Eric Benét ... just a slightly different genre. Here's a taster of the album: the video Night Air.

Jamie Woon is one of tomorrows musicians. He grew up in the London area with a Malaysian / Chinese father and a Scottish / Irish mother. He's got multiculturalism from the start, and maybe that's why he's such a talent.

He is a singer / songwriter / producer and he also remixes music for other musicians. His own music is a mix of R&B, samples, programming, guitar, etc.

He released his debut album Mirrorwriting in 2011 including a pair of singles so far and he was declared as no. 4 in the vote "The BBC's Sound of 2011".
He has remixed the quiet  (some might say half boring) song "Video Games" by Lana del Rey and got a very interesting result and it was released as an official remix.

EDIT:
Jamie Woon injured his leg in 2013 and had to cancel several concerts. Since then he has not shown much new. He has sung with and produced for some other artists. Rumors say he is working to publish music again "soon".

COLLETTE - new R&B star

/ RnB, USA (posted in Danish 2011 Nov. 14th)

Here is a fairly new R&B / soul artist + singer / songwriter / producer from Columbia (South Carolina). Her name is Collette Blakeney. And she sings fabulous.

Collette played the saxophone and the piano as a child. As a teenager she began to sing, probably inspired by her mother, who sang gospel. She sang in a choir for several years until she finally was ready to sing on her own.

Above: Material Star (ft. Akil Dasan).

Collette has many talents, both music wise and others. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in media production in 2004 with a minor in Japanese language and culture and she owns / runs a PR- and communications-company in New York.

She gets good reviews ... both live and on the debut CD (Experience Collette - 2008). This year she released Coco By Request - her next album, which was well received.

Above: Good Morning Heartache (Live In Chicago).

Collette was nominated for the title "Female Vocalist of the Year" by "The Soul Tracks Readers' Choice Award". In 2010 she won The John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

KATE BUSH - new album out

   / Prog-Rock, UK          (posted in Danish 2011 Nov. 14th)

November 2011 Kate Bush released a new album called 50 Words For Snow - also to be heard on Spotify. It's the 10th album from this mysterious, talented woman in her 33 years long career.

Below: a fanmade video for the track called Wild Man, from the new album. It is an intriguing song about the Yeti.

Kate Bush started her carreer by sending demotapes to record companies, with no luck. Accidentally David Gilmour of Pink Floyd heard the tape, helped Kate Bush produce a better demotape and sending it to EMI. They signed her as 16-year-old. But the following years they held back, wanting her to improve her skills, they payed her some money in advance, wanting to hold on to her. Then she started playing in a band and afterwards released her 1st album.

She writes her own music / lyrics and did receive many awards, including several big ones, and did set / break some records on the hitlists.

Below is a fan-made video (she didn't release one by herself) of the 1st track of the album: Snowflake.

50 Words For Snow features 7 tracks that are not unexpectedly quite long ... from 7 to 14 minutes. Her 12-year-old son also appears on the first track, and several other people contributes with vocals on the later tracks.

Kate Bush is a shy person, she did only do (EDIT:) 2 tours... 1979 and 2014. At her last tour cameras were prohibited and the crew were succesful in stopping people filming. There's no live material from that tour on the internet.

MEDIENGRUPPE TELEKOMMANDER comes to an end

   / Electro-Punk, Germany          (posted in Danish 2011 Nov. 13th)

... And who was that? One might ask ...

Mediengruppe Telekommander is / was a German (Florian Zwietnig) / Austrian (Gerald Mandl) 2-man-project started because of a desire to interconnect several electronic art forms. Florian and Gerald were both performing in electronic arts, before they met on a train from Berlin to Salzburg in 1998. (Below their video Panzer)

They both live in Berlin until year 2000, but then they depart. Altogether they have for several periods studied / dealt with: psychology, communication and literature, electro-acoustics, short films and video installation and as consultant for internet agencies ... among other things.

They involved different artists, art forms and techniques, trying to develop something new, and after their debut single (Frauen Sind Besser) in 2001, things quietly went ahead and they decided to become a live band too.

Their lyrics are interesting, socialcritical and anarchistic. For example, the song Mein Herz (lyrics follows below the video)

You can’t beat the feeling

(Above: their video Trend.) The style is uncompromising Electro-Punk and their videos are even sharper.  The video below is actually the wildest zombie splatter film since the Tarantino movie From Dusk Till Dawn.

VIDEO NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED - WATCH MOVIE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Mediengruppe Telekommander agreed to dissolve in late 2011, so it's probably just around the corner ... even though they aren't wery active anymore, it is still a shame and they will be missed ... last album is Die Elite Der Nächstenliebe with the singles Billig (video above) and Deine Schule.

Mediengruppe Telekommander has published a total of four studio albums and a live album.
